Foundation for the promotion of Italian contemporary art
The VAF Foundation is a culturally active German venture whose commitment is exclusively focused on exploiting the outstanding achievements of modern and contemporary art in Italy to the point of collecting, dignifying, developing, spreading and advertising its latest creative contributions. The aspect of cultural exchange and the artistic dialogue between Italy and Germany – and German-speaking countries – is an important factor in the ambitious work of the foundation. The VAF Foundation does not only give loans from its high profile and extensive collection of Italian art of the 20th and 21st century to museums in Germany and Italy, it also publishes art scientific papers on specific manifestations of Italian Modernism in bilingual, German and Italian editions and praises them also every two years with a prize for young Italian artists whose award is always accompanied by an exhibition which is always shown both in Germany and in Italy. In addition, the agenda of the foundation includes the collaborations with various partners in exhibition projects with Italian topics and affirmative measures that will benefit Italian artists directly.

MACRO Testaccio, Pavilion 9B, Piazza Orazio Giustiniani, 4 - RomeDuring the exhibition’s opening at Rome’s MACRO Testaccio the Jury, which includes Martin Engler, Volker W. Feierabend, Lorand Hegyi, Sivila Höller, Norbert Nobis, and Klaus Wolbert, has announced the winners of the 7th edition of Premio Fondazione VAF. Struck by the individual approach of the work project presented, and believing that the artistic contribution evaualted through this certificate stands out not only for the strong effectiveness of its perceptual communication, but that it also exemplifies a remarkably high, uncommon degree of invention in conceptual and aesthetic terms, the Jury of Fondazione VAF, after a close examination and careful consultation, has achieved the resolution to grant the highest art award of Fondazione VAF for the year 2016 to artist VALERIO ROCCO ORLANDO. Moreover, struck by the unique approach of the creative work produced by the artists, which reveals their great talent, and believing that the artistic contribution evaluated here does not only constitute a highly challenging, interesting solution in and of itself, but that it also holds reasonable potential for excellent, high-quality creative solutions in the future, the Jury of Fondazione VAF, after a close examination and careful consultation, has achieved the unanimous resolution to grant the three awards instituted as part of the programme for the VAF Foundation art prize to CHIARA FUMAI, MICHAEL FLIRI, and ROBERTO PUGLIESE.
